Mrs. Byoun earned her DMA degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), where she taught music theory courses. She won several competitions, including the American Composers Forum, Bourges International Electro-Acoustic Music Composition, UIUC Orchestra Composition, and Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) Composers Today. Her compositions were performed in Illinois, Kansas, California, Arizona, Ohio, and Florida concert halls. As a pianist-composer, she performed her piano compositions at Kansas City, San Diego, Urbana, and Oberlin concert halls and the MTAC convention.
In Irvine, she studied piano pedagogy under Kyung Ja Bae, a prominent competition judge in Orange County and a former branch president of the MTAC, with whom her three sons took lessons. Her sons won the MTAC branch and state solo and concerto competitions, the Southern Youth Music Festival (SYMF), the Musical Arts Competition of Orange County, and the Southern California Junior Bach Festival. After completing lessons, her sons won many college scholarships, attended Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) and dental school, and became music teachers and composer-producers. They all enjoy music in their lives and serve others with their talents.
With the knowledge and experience, Dr. Cho accepts students who love music and want to find their inner voice and express it to the world.
